Reflexology

Massage Your Way to Balance and Well-Being

Reflexology, a powerful holistic energy modality for the proliferation of health and well-being is based upon the idea that there is a direct connection between the many reflex points in your feet, hands, and ears and your internal organs. Direct pressure is applied to specific reflex points with the intention of evoking a response in a related internal organ or gland. The feet, hands, and ears represent a microcosm of the body, in that the reflex points for all of the organs, glands, and other body parts are laid out in a similar arrangement within them. Pressure or palpation on a reflex point can therefore effect the corresponding organ, gland, or structure. The basic explanation of how reflexology works follows that applied stimulation acts to clear nervous system and tissue congestion thus removing accumulated toxins out of the body encouraging the initiation of the body’s own inherent healing ability.

Administering a reflexology treatment is incredibly simple. Below you will find diagrams of the reflex points for your feet, hands, and ears. You can approach your treatment as a comprehensive tune up massaging and palpating the entire area of the target site you choose or you can look for specific points to bring energy and relief to the organ, gland, or body part that you feel needs extra attention. Either way you approach your reflexology treatment you will bring more positive, healing energy into your body. This information is not being provided as medical advice so if you really have a serious medical condition you should definitely speak with your physician. However, reflexology is gentle enough that you should be able to add it to any other medically prescribed treatment regimen without the risk of incurring negative side effects. Always use your best judgement when approaching your health. Also remember that consistency and multiple treatment sessions may be best to achieve high level results with reflexology.

Foot Reflexology

The most popular site for reflexology is the feet. Your feet are the foundation of your body and they support the weight of your entire skeleton producing movement and shock absorption with every step. Foot reflexology treatments are the most effective for liberating toxins out of the system. Treatments done on the feet can result in positive benefits for the body including a relaxing and calming effect for the mind and the senses.

Hand Reflexology

Hand reflexology is just as effective as foot reflexology and is widely used for acupressure and shiatsu treatments. Some practitioners add a short hand treatment to the end of a foot reflexology session to enhance the overall benefits and provide a more comprehensive procedure. Investigating specific reflex points on the hands can also validate findings that have been uncovered from a foot exam. Hand reflexology provides easy access for mini-demonstrations, self treatment and first aid if necessary.

Ear Reflexology

Also known as Auricular Therapy, Ear reflexology is the most gentle form of reflexology and can be safely administered to the very elderly, tiny babies, and animals. The Chinese believe that shape of the ear lobe can tell you about an individuals constitution. A long, broad lobe indicates good health and strong kidneys. On the contrary, a lobe that is short and thin indicates physical weakness. An awareness of the anatomy of the inner ear can help you understand its effectiveness in reflexology. An important nerve called the vagus nerve passes through the center of the ear. This nerve is known as the wandered because of its far-reaching effects. It moves from the brain to the neck and thorax before branching into the ear merging with tongue, pharynx, larynx, and gullet before descending down to the abdominal region. The triangular fossa or shallow depression in the anterior part of the top of the ear has branches for almost all of the bodies nerves. Also, many of the meridians move around or enter the ear. This higher activation of nerve energy makes the ear a perfect target site for highly effective reflexology treatments.
