The Major Astrological Aspects
Aspects Create Access
As the planets move around the heavens they form angles to one another called aspects. The “major” aspects or Ptolemaic aspects are conjunctions, oppositions, trines, squares, and sextiles. Each of these aspects measures the angular connection between two planetary points along the ecliptic. The ecliptic is the path the Sun follows around the Earth each year. When you look at the way the planets interact with one another over the course of the year you will uncover many opportunities to start projects, increase momentum, transcend obstacles, or release and let go. Planetary aspects give insight into the tone of the cosmic landscape and allow you to plan your life to include the deep surges of energetic flow that occurs as planets come together in the cosmos.
The Conjunction
0-8° or The 1st Harmonic Aspect, the Conjunction creates a common purpose between two planets. This unity is perfected when the two planets occupy the same degree.
The Opposition
180° or The 2nd Harmonic Aspect, the Opposition indicates a need for balance, harmony, and special understanding. They point out the opposite sides of a single issue.
The Trine
120° or The 3rd Harmonic Aspect, the Trine represents an effortless flow of energy. Since there are no obstacles to modulate the flow the energy is incessant.
The Square
90° or The 4th Harmonic Aspect, the Square represents tension, conflict, and strain. This does not have to be negative. By taking appropriate action you can resolve the conflict.
The Sextile
60° or The 6th Harmonic Aspect, the Sextile represents favorable circumstances for assistance. They potential in the Sextile must be activated.
